Friday, September 12, 2008
7 - 9 p.m.

Dear Friends,

It's that time again! Please join us at the Warwick Museum of Art for our Fourth Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser being held on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 7-9 PM. Tickets to the event are available to be purchased at the door or via PayPal on the Warwick Museum of Art website: http://warwickmuseum.org. Tickets are $35 per person/ $60 per couple.

Imagine an evening of fine art, fine wine, and fine conversation with the local Rhode Island Art community. Come see the improvements that have been made to the Museum, take in the art works from 14 local artists participating in the "Variations on a Theme" exhibition, speak to many of the artists themselves, and enjoy sampling various wines from the Savory Grape Wine Shop.

This year's outstanding Silent Auction items include original artwork, overnight and breakfast for two at the chic NYLO Hotel, gym memberships, gift baskets, spirits, dinner gift certificates and more!

As Warwick's largest non-profit arts organization and the area's cultural center since 1976, the Warwick Museum of Art continues to provide a performance and exhibition space for the most talented artists, writers and performers in Rhode Island and is host of a wide array of cultural and artistic activities including comedy, theater, music, poetry and literature as well as monthly visual arts exhibitions.

The Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser is one of our most important fundraising events at the WMOA. Local non-profits are feeling the pinch in these touch economic times. The WMOA has tightened its belt and is committed to continue to bring quality arts education and exhibitions to Warwick. But we can't do this alone. The WMOA relies on the generosity of its patrons, grants, private donations and fundraisers throughout the year.

We hope that you will join us for our most important fund raising event of the year.

About the current exhibit:  Variations on a Theme
This exhibition consists of multi-media artwork of fourteen local visual artists, members of the Providence Art Motivation Group: Stephanie Schechter (group organizer) Laura Atkinson, Wayne Bridge, Deborah Carlson, Chrystee Governo, Patty Johnston-Martucci, Nicole McDermott, David McGuirl, Deenie Pacik, Elise Rugens, Ewa Stosik-Moers, Dorota Streitfeld, David Tobin, and Jill Tyler. Variations on a Theme explores the artistic interpretations of four subjects: Eyes, Water, Collection and Pattern.

All works are available for purchase and include a wide array of media and disciplines: Acrylic, Oil and Watercolor paintings, Collage, Digital Art, Illustration, Mixed-media, Pastel, Photography, and Sculpture. Twice monthly, the Providence Art Motivation Group meets to provide support, direction and deadlines for visual artists in all mediums who need structure to be productive. At the end of each session, a theme is selected at random from group members’ suggestions. They then have two to three weeks to complete a piece of work, based on the new theme, in the medium of their choice to be presented at the next meeting.

This exhibit showcases the dramatically different interpretations in terms of style, medium and realization of the subject theme. For instance, one artist may approach the subject of “pattern” by looking towards nature to find the patterns in a growing garden, another may incorporate swatches of patterned fabric into a mixed media collage. This show represents that one’s creative interpretation knows no bounds, and is not restricted to common vision. The artists explore deeper significance and expression of the simple subjects.
