Book Lecture - "Yes I Can!" The Story of Jim Wyllie, A Person with Autism

Jim Willie was born in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan in 1968. He was diagnosed with autism when he was 6 years old. Jim turned 40 on March 31, 2008. This book describes how the Wyllie family was able to save Jim from a life-long sentence to a mental institution. It was written to help families learn to live with autism, to know the costs, the constant work involved, to appreciate small successes, and to feel the stupendous joy that comes with large ones.

The book was written by Robert S. Wyllie, Jim's dad, and published by his uncle, Marcus Ferrelli, Principal of Exeter Associates in Rhode Island.

"Yes I Can!" is a compelling account of a remarkable young man with autism and is an amazing story of achievements seldom, if ever, equaled.

Marcus Ferrelli will be at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick on Friday, July 25th from 7 to 9 pm to talk about his nephew. There will be copies of "Yes I Can!" signed by the author for sale at that time.

The evening is sponsored by Carol's Country Corner, the Warwick Museum of Art, the Apponaug Area Improvement Association and the Kent County Arc of the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center.

The evening is free to the public Refreshments will be provided and served by clients of Kent County Arc Worksite Partners Program.

WMOA Announcing New Hours of Operation Beginning in August, 2008

Although the WMOA operating hours will be changing, you may find that you have extra time to visit the museum with the new, convenient visitor hours.

Due to budget constraints and the rising cost of utilities, the Warwick Museum of Art will adopt a compressed work week, and change its office and gallery hours in early August. Beginning August 12, 2008 the WMOA gallery and administrative office will be open Wednesday & Thursday 2:00 p.m. – 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. The WMOA will be closed on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesday and holidays.

Our calendar of events can be found on http://warwickmuseum.org and click on Calendar of Events. The gallery and office may be closed during the day if special evening events are scheduled (such as a community meeting, classes, artist receptions, etc.) It is suggested that you call the Warwick Museum of Art to ensure the gallery is open.

Unexpected Company will continue to perform every Sunday evening at 7:17 p.m.
